3 What is the require Comprehensive Diagnostic Evaluation for Autism services ?

A comprehensive diagnostic evaluation is required to diagnose ASD. A comprehensive diagnostic evaluation is the entire process of gathering information to determine a diagnosis, which must include a reliable, valid, standardized diagnostic assessment tools

Check if your diagnostic includes one or more of the following assessments:

  • Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-Second Edition (ADOS-2)
  • Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R)
  • Childhood Autism Rating Scale-Second Edition (CARS-2)
  • Gilliam Autism Rating Scale, Third Edition (GARS-3) (also requires a diagnostic evaluation demonstrating other methodology to supplement the parent questionnaire was used).

Very Important: The following tools might indicate that your child only got a screening but not a formal Comprehensive Diagnostic Evaluation:
The Screening Tool for Autism in Toddlers and Young Children (STAT) or the Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (M-CHAT-R) or M-CHAT Revised with Follow-Up (M-CHAT-R/F) may not replace the use of validated diagnostic assessment tools.

Assessments must be conducted by appropriately trained, specialized or certified providers. Diagnosis of ASD may be made by any one of the following providers or utilizing an interdisciplinary diagnostic team approach:

A developmental pediatrician
• A neurologist
•A psychiatrist
• A licensed psychologist
• Interdisciplinary Diagnostic Team

To be eligible for the ABA services, a diagnosis of ASD complete with diagnostic criteria and symptom severity level from the current DSM must be made or reconfirmed within 3 years of initiation or recertification of ABA services.

3 What ABA methodologies do we use?

We utilize a variety of methodologies including:

  • Naturalistic Teaching
  • Pivotal Response Training (PRT)
  • Verbal Behavior
  • Discrete Trials Training
4 How many hours of therapy should my child receive?

Each child has unique needs. First, we will conduct an initial assessment followed by observations to determine the needs of the child. A medical necessity assessment will be a guide to determine your child’s care plan.

5 How will (or can) ABA help my child with school?

ABA methods can help your child  improve when it comes to social, communication, and languages skills.

The goal is to work with the child so that behaviors can replicated in different settings and when interacting with a variety of people at different times.

6 What are reinforcers and are they necessary for my child?

In order for changes in behavior to happen, a child will need something that motivates them. This is why we initially use reinforcers (most desired activities or items) and over time shift them to happen naturally (e.g., hugs, positive praise statements , thumbs up, claps, smiles, high fives, dances).

7 Can I learn to conduct ABA therapy with my child?

Yes!

In fact, it’s strongly encouraged and is a part of ABA Vibe's Parent Training program that is required as part of our commitment to help parent take ownership and get the most of the treatment process.

Funding and Payment

The cost of therapy will depend on the need of your child and the types of programs chosen (in Home ABA Treatment, Social Skills Coaching, Stand-Alone Parent Training and so on ). It will also vary depending on the source of funding/financing chosen.

We currently accept Blue Shield Blue Cross of Texas (BCBSTX), Optum| UnitedHealthcare, and Tricare.

However, we are in the process of adding more major insurance providers in the coming weeks.

Please, verify that your insurance company provides ABA coverage and be sure to let us identify the provider in the contact form so that we can make sure that this will be one of the options.

Yes, we accept private pay (parents paying out of pocket for ABA services).

Many national, state, and private agencies provide grant programs to help parents deal with out-of-pocket costs of ABA services (see Autism Grants for Families) If private/self pay is in the cards for you, these grants are worth considering, every little bit helps.
